Vision
To inspire people through art and design, to see beauty in unexpected places.
Company Profile & History
Lori Harrison, the design company, officially launched in 2011. The focus of the collection is contemporary textiles and clean-lined, classic-contemporary furniture.
Lori Harrison’s design and art practice is characterized by her observations of entropy in both our natural and manufactured environments. Deconstruction and natural decay leave behind texture and pattern – remnants and allusions – usually overlooked, but from which can be found both narrative and great beauty. Lori uses both textile and furniture design as a means to explore this creative vision.
Since the launch of the first collection, Lori Harrison textiles and furniture have been featured in prominent design media such as House & Home magazine, design blogs and on national television. Following the debut of the collection at the 2012 Toronto Interior Design show, the products are now available at retailers across Canada, including the renowned Hollace Cluny in Toronto.
In 2012 Lori Harrison completed two important commissions, the Prince George Hotel in Halifax, and Canada House in London. For both pieces, Lori employed her signature technique of using images of entropy as the foundation for the design. For the Prince George, Lori used rusting boat hulls as the inspiration for the creation of one-of-a-kind textiles for the hotel’s award-winning restaurant. Lori was also commissioned by Foreign Affairs Canada to create custom seating for the newly refurbished Canada House in London UK. For this she used a pattern inspired by an aging roadside shed she discovered on the shores of the Bay of Fundy.
In addition to developing her design practice, Lori created and facilitates Toronto’s first Design Salon, a monthly gathering of multi-disciplinary designers. The Salon provides an opportunity for the design community to exchange ideas, collaborate, share experiences, and encourage one another to succeed in the business of being a designer.
Lori received her BFA in Design from Concordia University and a degree in Sociology and Poltical Science from Queen's University. She currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario with her husband and the wish that one day she will have a dog.
